Irked from Deadline Island

irked-from-deadline-island

From Gennita Low’s blog:
Here’s a intro video of the coverage of the Romantic Times Convention from 2007 (last year). The film, Reading, Riting, and Romance: Taming The Alpha Male, will be shown in its entirety in the Cut Film Festival in San Francisco next spring.

Something about this just IRKS the HELL outta me. Taking into consideration my allergies are acting up again, it just seems….I dunno. I almost want to say Kinda Tacky. Maybe it’s because in 9 stories out of 10 I don’t WRITE Alpha Males and, at least from the clip above, it feels like, once again, the genre’s getting misrepresented. Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe there’s more to the movie but based on the trailer….*shakes head* I dunno

talk amongst yourselves….

Swiped from Charlie! Who got the idea from Michelle Rowen who is challenging blog-landia to share their dusty bits and bytes.

Feel free to join in and post your own……This is the original beginning for a book that was supposed to be a Blaze…then wasn’t and is now lying in a dusty heap on my computer. I can’t even begin to tell you how HARD it was not to edit…and how much I cringed  :lmao:

Taking a Break From All Your Worries

taking-a-break-from-all-your-worries

Anyone watch Battlestar Gallactica? LOL Sorry

Anyway…I’ve been out here blogging for four years. That’s a long time in Internet Years, and I’ve decided it’s time for me to take some serious time off–namely the summer–and recharge some batters. Don’t worry–I’ll be back in time to pimp Make U Sweat!

But before I go, we’re having a contest. My current WIP, lovingly entitled SCREWED, needs a new title.

SCREWED is two novellas–Screwed (which I get to keep as a novella title) and Hooked and both are follow-ups to NAILED.  While these stories technically have NOTHING to do with construction or blue-collar work, I’d like to try and keep the theme the same or similiar.

Here’s a little behind-the-scenes. SCREWED: Will Collier rescues a damsel in distress (she’s a traveling sorta gypsy girls who tells fortunes at ren fairs), gets her in hot water, ends up in a secluded cabin with her, they have hot spanky sex, she runs away, gets grabbed by a very bad man and shoots him, just as Will and his brothers show up to rescue her. Oh, and there’s a dog named Scamp.

HOOKED: John Collier is hunting the man who tried to kill his brother (in Screwed). The guy is connected to a big crime family but John’s hell-bent on killing him anyway. Bad John. To that end John tracks him to the Caribbean and breaks into his room (in drag) only to find a woman in the shower. The little hot tamale turns out to be the only daughter of a man you don’t want to piss off. Things happen, and John gets roped into posing as her boyfriend/bodyguard for four days. She makes him miserable, tries to seduce him, succeeds and then they get busted at the wedding by her father who makes John an offer he can’t refuse.  :evillaugh:

It has to be a sexy title. I like one-word titles but short titles work too. Both heroes are hitmen.  Screwed is a little on the dark/thoughtful side while Hooked is just damned funny stuff.

The winning title (as chosen by my editor) will get an acknowledgment in the book and an autographed copy of the book when it comes out next Spring (March 09).  I’ll also throw in copies of NAILED and MAKE U SWEAT (When I get my author copies of MUS in August).

My critique partners, the blog crew from SFC and the blog crew from NAS are all eligible because I need all the help I can get.

GO FOR TITLE!

365-days-later

365 Days Later here we are. Still alive and kicking. You know when Shelli first came to me and asked me to be a Nas(ty) Girl I was very hesitant because I was already involved in one group blog. Did I have the time? Did I have the energy, and just how many crazy-ass, off the wall blog topics could I come up with? A group blog is a group effort and a huge undertaking.

That said, I’m so proud over how well we’ve done here and what we’ve made, that I could just burst at the seams!

Personally, 365 days ago my first print book was released. Today I’m celebrating another release*.  It’s been a crazy year, full of a lot of challenges (teenagers, agents, deadlines, a puppy (WTF) broken dishwashers!), but I wouldn’t trade it or this writing gig for anything.

Now, instead of looking back. Let’s look forward. What’s one thing you’d like to accomplish in the next 365 days?

Post your answer below–or just a shout out and I’ll draw 2 winners** tomorrow morning(randomly). One will get their choice of any ebook from my list (Ropers Rule, Dancehall Diaries: Lynette, Once in a Blue Moon) and one person will get an autographed copy of Nailed.  Also if you want an autographed cover flat just drop me an email (amie at amiestuart dot com)! I’ve got tons for Nailed and Make U Sweat.

*The first three chapters of NAILED are available here (for free)

** Open to those who haven’t won anything from me in the last 30 days.

Beotch!

beotch

First the good…then the bad. It’s been an amazing year here at Nas(ty) blog  I managed to land a new agent, Feisty and Shelli sold to New York and I KNOW Karen won’t be far behind. All I can say is GO US! And our one year isn’t technically until next year. I can’t wait to see what the next year brings–besides lots of shiny books!

How to tell if you have PMS? You eat Reeses, drink a Coke and eat popcorn all at the same time. *sigh*

I’m crabby, I nearly beat my child today and did I mention I’m crabby? I spent half the night with a dog on one side of me and a cat who HATES the dog on the other and my child….did I mention my child? Anyway I have PMS and a deadline so I’m opening the floor for your bitchery. ANYTHING is fair game.

Go to it!

Two Girls Kissing

two-girls-kissing

So Rita scores are going out.

I got mine for Hands On: Lexi. Believe me I knew I wouldn’t final….not with two girls kissing….but if you don’t play, you can’t win!

Anyway I thought it might be fun (see: I’m under deadline and feeling a little anxious) to post my scores. Feel free to play along.

8, 6.5, 5.1, 5 and 4.

That’s it. I scored in the lower half. Do I care? Not really….. :evillaugh:

Ohhhhhhhhh when I wrote this on Saturday I forgot I was blogging at the Cobblestone Press blog. Pop in and chat with me on the high cost of having a good time. I’m giving away a copy of Ropers Rule and I’ll be back in five to tell you who won last week’s comment. My apologies for the delay! I’m stuck out here on Deadline Island!    :gold:

WINNER WINNER WINNER! Amelia is my winner. Please email me at amie at amiestuart dot com and let me know what format you want Ropers Rule in. Once I finish up this Aphrodisia book we can chat about you naming one of the characters in an upcoming upcoming Wicked–so you’ve got a couple weeks to think about it! COngrats!

Who Likes Short Shorts?

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008
who-likes-short-shorts

But first….it’s Brenda Novak auction time! The Naughty and Spice girls have donated a gift bag with lots of great goodies!

nailed-shirt.jpg

The shirt says: Get Nailed Because a hitman is a terrible thing to waste. Get it? Hitman….waste…hehehe. I know I’m easily amused.

I also did a couple different styles of t-shirts and you get to choose!

So anyway let’s talk about shorts because as you know (I know you knew) I have a short short coming out with Cobblestone Press on Friday. And I’m just thrilled that Ropers Rule is the very first Wicked!

I love doing shorts unfortunately I moved away from them because, well, there wasn’t much of a market. I actually started out writing shorts, then didn’t write for a few years, then wrote a few single titles, then met Sasha White who said, “You should try Black Lace!” I did and sold one to them for Sex on…Holiday, then our editor left, my next two shorts were rejected (bet you can’t guess what one of them was?! LOL) and I went back to writing longer work.

You’d think shorts would be easy, but they’re actually challenging…in their own way as challenging as writing longer works. You’ve got to give the reader an intriguing peek at a slice of your characters life, hot sex and a satisfying ending (with Wicked HEA’s aren’t necessary but aren’t against the rules either–it’s erotica after all). It can be really challenging because even in the framework of a short story, the sex has to fit, it has to be necessary, otherwise you’re just writing Penthouse Forum. On the other hand, short erotica gives me a chance to explore sexual topics I might not be willing to try in a longer format, and, to some extent, satisfy my curiosity (including but not limited to anal, threesomes, semi-public sex, and peaches which you won’t get to read about until August). I’m discovering I’ve got quite a voyeuristic/exhibitionist streak thingy going on. I’ve already started what I hope will be another Wicked and the hero, well he’s having a hell of a good time watching the heroine be a very bad girl (and so am I).

I came up with the idea for Ropers Rule because I’m shallow and wanted to ride write a cowboy. I quickly realized that if one cowboy is good, two is … heavenly. :hump:

Sooooooooo do you like shorts? Or do you prefer something longer? Who are some of your favorite short erotica authors? Leave a comment between now and Friday at 5 Central time. I’ll draw one winner to receive a copy of Ropers Rule and to let them name a character in a future Wicked.
