Who’s your favorite fictional hookups by Candace Havens

whos-your-favorite-fictional-hookups-by-candace-havens

First of all, thanks to Shell for letting me hang out with you guys today. I really appreciate it.

I had a hard time deciding if I wanted to be naughty here. I don’t see why not. So I’m going to talk about hookups. Have you ever had a one night stand? I haven’t. And I’ve been married for 25 years, so the prospects don’t look that promising in the very near future.  (My husband just walked by and gave me the eye.) I need more of an emotional connection when it comes to sex.

But I can certainly imagine what happens. I mean, I do have friends who have triple digit one night stands. (No, I’m not talking about Rosemary and Shannon.) I’ve heard stories that would curl your toes. I’ve heard stories that will make you wonder just how stupid chicks can get when they are drunk. Luckily, they all survived these encounters, and some of them made for very sexy stories.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not against the instant hookup, just haven’t had a lot of experience with it. But of course, through my fiction I can explore these kinds of relationships. Mariska and Jackson, the stars of my new novel TAKE ME IF YOU DARE don’t exactly have a one night stand, but the get together pretty fast. I like that there is a sense of danger and urgency. They can’t keep their hands off each other. There is an instant connection and they both want each other.

That I have felt. That heat you feel when you meet someone for the first time and you know they are into you, and you are most assuredly into them. That first kiss that takes your breath away, or they touch you and you get chills. The good kind. That’s one of the things I like most about writing romance. I get to re-live those moments time and again. It’s not a bad way to make a living.

For Mariska and Jackson the hookup happens fast but it comes about rather naturally. They both want each other, and even though they know they shouldn’t for a variety of reasons, they do. I think that’s something we can all relate to in some way. Haven’t we all been in relationships that were exciting and maybe a little dangerous, but we jumped in anyway?

Do you have some favorite fictional hookups? Those book that made you feel the heat too? Gena Showalter’s Lord of the Underworld series and Nalini Singhs Angel series come to mind. Hot, sexy reads with to-die-for heroes. That’s important part for me. A strong hero. So share some of your favorites.

Comment here and a random poster will win a copy of TAKE ME IF YOU DARE.

Hmmm, I’m a fan of Gena’s & Kresley’s – but Johanna Lindsey’s were what drew me into the romance realm – her heroes always got me. As for jumping into a dangerous relationship, that’s how my husband got stuck with me ;) Darn those bad boy auras.

  4. Lyoness2009

I love Roarke and Eve Dallas (the early books). The relationship was so sweet yet volatile and passionate.

  5. Candace Havens

Sybir, I need to read some Johanna Lindsey. I’ve never read here.

Lyoness, LOVE Roarke and Eve. You are so right about that relationship.

  6. Deborah Blake

I never had such a thing either [ahem...well, okay] but I image that they aren’t always as sexy in real life as they are in TAKE ME IF YOU DARE, which I just finished yesterday. Of course, very little is as sexy as this book!

I love the chemistry that Jennifer Crusie has in her books, even if the characters don’t always hook up right away.

  7. Candace Havens

Deborah, Jennifer Cruise is a good one! :)

  8. Eva S

J R Ward’s Brothers are my favorites, and Sherrilyn Kenyon’s new series. I just finished Born of Night and I so love those tortured heroes!

  9. Joni

OMG, yes, Eve and Rourke in the early years! Him so dangerous, her so conflicted…explosive. Yum! (ww)

  10. Candace Havens

J.R. Ward is a good one too. I’ve only read the first two in that series. Haven’t picked up Sherilynn’s new ones. Will have to add those to the pile.

  11. Joni

There was also one of Nora’s categories that had an artist as the hero that comes to mind. Don’t remember the name, but the scene where they get together was during a storm…and he’d been in a painting frenzy…it was awesome… (ww)

Hi, Candace, and thanks for blogging at Naughty and Spice today! Let’s see, my favorite fictional hookups are probably…Maddie and Jack in the Spying in High Heels series. Love that! And Rachel and Sager in Rachel and the hired Gun. Hmm there’s so many, it’s hard to pick!

For me, it is Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunters.

I’m also on the Ward and Kenyon bandwagons. Ward’s BDB are some sexy beasts. And Z and Bella are especially wonderful.

I would have to say alot of books had that heat factor in them for me. I am with Sybir, Johanna Lindsey’s books was what drew me into reading romance novels. So many for me to choose from, but two that I have read recently was by Delilah Devlin and Paige Tyler. I would say their stories have some good hookups in them.

All this Johanna Lindsey love!!! Warrior’s Woman is the first futuristic I ever read and the one on my keeper shelf. Can’t get enough of that book or her yummy, 7-foot hero!! And don’t forget Wolf in Makenzie’s Mountain by Linda Howard. Wolf and Mary didn’t know each other 30 minutes before he had his hands under her skirt.
