A common misconception is that the sari is a very modest garment with its endless yards of fabric, tucks, and folds. What comes as a surprise to many is that it can be easily be the sexiest outfit in the world. Although it covers the legs it leaves the midriff open and part of the upper back and arms exposed.
Another myth is that romance is absent in the mostly arranged marriages of India. Nonetheless where there is love there is romance. And where there is romance, there is heat, spice, and tantalizing sex. After all, it was India that produced the Kama Sutra centuries ago, the very first textbook on sex.
Worn really low over the hips with the belly button showing, and a blouse with a low neckline, the sari can be quite naughty indeed. In fact, if any of you are familiar with Bollywood movies, you will know what I mean. Saris come in sheer organza, clingy chiffon, shimmering silk, and a host of organic and synthetic fabrics that can reveal a lot or not, depending on the woman who’s wearing it.
It is my love of saris that led me to write my latest and third release, THE SARI SHOP WIDOW. Set on the streets of Edison, New Jersey’s Little India, it tells the story of a young businesswoman who rediscovers the magic of love, family, and her roots as she fights to save her failing sari boutique.
Little India is a quaint little community, a slice of India transplanted into the heart of suburban America. Bursting with ethnic restaurants, sari and clothing boutiques, jewelry stores, food markets, and all the spice and color that represent Indian culture, it is a wonderful place to spend a day, to get a taste of India.
All my books are “Bollywood in a Book,” stories filled with cultural elements, colorful characters, romance, and drama. My first two books, THE DOWRY BRIDE and THE FORBIDDEN DAUGHTER, were set in India, therefore I decided to set THE SARI SHOP WIDOW in the U.S., to capture the Indian-American immigrant experience.
A video trailer of THE SARI SHOP WIDOW and an excerpt can be found on my website: www.shobhanbantwal.com along with recipes, photos, author events, and book reviews.
I plan to give away a signed copy of THE SARI SHOP WIDOW to one lucky commenter. So please do come and post lots of comments.

Sari’s are indeed very sexy. They just make most women who are wearing them look more feminine somehow.

I’ve had The Dowry Bride forever on my TBR pile. I’ve been to India a few times. Combined, it comes to like 2 years that I spent there. Love the flavors, aromas, colors, music and so on.
Yes, sari’s are very sensual and erotic. They leave enough to the imagination, but titillate with some midriff skin. Would have loved to wear one, but was more a Punjabi dress girl myself. I felt very sexy in those though.
I need to start reading your books!

I always thought saris were pretty, although they’re not always sexy when worn on older ladies who are more affected by gravity. lol

A sari is, indeed, sexy…if you are thin or thinnish. Even if you are chunky it looks alright, but when you are…MORE…they make you look like a stuffed sausage! Be that as it may, I enjoyed your post and I really liked the book cover.I’m hoping to get your book as soon as I can.
