I went to the dentist yesterday. And as I sat there and waited for this and waited for that (I swear it was the longest dentist appointment I’ve ever been to), my writer’s mind wandered. I remembered a conversation long, long ago, I believe on the eharlequin boards, about unlikely professions for heroes. Someone mentioned dentists.
And I believe Jenna said she wanted to read/write a sexy dentist. I **think** it was her. Man it was long ago…
Anyway, do you think a dentist could be sexy? I just…I don’t know. Their hands are in your mouth. A lot of people have phobias about dentists. Sometimes they cause you pain. Make you feel guilty for not flossing. That’s mine – my teeth looked pretty good but he had to nag on me (and yes! he nags!) about flossing. It’s the same ol’, same ol’ every single time.
I mean do you want that coming at you in a romance novel? I bet not.
Tell me other unsexy professions for a hero. Give ‘em to me!

I used to have a huge dentist phobia due to a mean childhood dentist. When I was in my mid-twenties I found a dentist that was a few years older and he was extremely cute. He was very patient and had great humor and actually helped me get rid of the phobia. Needless to say, I had a bit of a crush on him. When I needed a filling or a crown he gave me some laughing gas. I used to imagine the naughtiest things while I was under, and he always seemed to have a “knowing” smile as I came out of it. I always wondered if I gave myself away. Alas, I had to move and have yet to find another dentist like him.
Personally, I think a story with a plumber would be unsexy or a field worker.

Ah Sheila that’s a great story! See, a sexy caring dentist! I love it.
I had a mean dentist when I was a kid too. My current dentist put me very much at ease and I’ll always appreciate him for that. I can forgive the floss nagging, I really can. LOL

I wrote a sexy dentist in Cabin Fever! Hmm yeah plumbers would never do it for me (and yet they’re listed as sexy man careers? WTF?) I guess cause I worked for a plumbing company as a dispatcher, and trust me, no fantasy material there!

I have a serious dentist phobia. But it is getting better. I hate to go, but what are you going to do. My sisters go to a dentist that they both have a huge crush on. Not me, I go to a boring guy, but he is really nice.
Ok, so a garbage man is not so sexy. :dork:

well, what I seriously think is that any job is better than no job. So even if you are a garbage man, a plumber, or whatever. To me, that is way better than being unemployed when there are jobs like these out there to be had somewhere.
Shelle- do you even see your garbage man? Mine could be the same as my mail man and I wouldn’t even know!! :gold:

So the pest control guy just came to my door and he was cute! And I never considered pest control guy as a sexy profession. Hmmm…interesting.

I have to third or fourth the vote for PLUMBERS are NOT SEXY! Though I have seen some hot ones, just thinking about what they must put their (admittedly gloved) hands in all day.
And exterminators, spreading poison and dealing with snakes, bugs etc. EW

 Yeah I have to agree about the dentist, garbage man, plumber and pest guy not being sexy. At least mine aren’t.
Now, the Pool guy is sexy.
The Fed-Ex guy that comes to my door is hunka hunka drool worthy.
And the guy that comes to fix the leaks on the roof when it rains each year…yowza!
