I’ll tell you my secret…

Rain. You heard me, rain. Drizzly weather is the secret to writing.

When the sun is shining and there is just the right amount of shade outside, who wants to be sitting with a computer? I know exactly where to sit in the yard so my face is shaded with a book and my toes are tickled by the sprinkler. Heaven.

Rain comes in handy in writing too. Not sure how to get your characters off a golf course quickly? Send in the rush of a coastal thunderstorm. (Par For The Course) Need to get a character in a coffee shop? Let the rain drip off the awnings she’s walking beneath. (Starting Over) Rain clears the air, in nature and for our characters.

But I don’t want it to rain right now. I’ve had enough for a while! And…I’m waiting to hear back from an editor, so I have nothing that needs writing.

Besides, warm temperatures can be just as inspiring, especially if you have a character out for an evening stroll who happens to hear something erotic coming from a neighbors window. (Night of Inspiration) Rain would have ruined that story.

**To rain or not to rain…what kind of weather do you like in your stories? **

Jenna is hard at work on getting her house ready to sell – it keeps her from thinking about what her editor might think of her latest idea. In the meantime, Compromising Positions is available with chocolate, Kama Sutra yoga, a decade old crush and a steady addiction to sugar. Ack Summer

ack-summer

I’m totally taggin’ onto Amie’s post about summer. Can you believe it’s almost here? Or pretty much here? My kids are out of school in two weeks. On one hand, I’m glad because I am sick to death of getting up so early. I thought I would get used to that six a.m. alarm but after nine months, nope, I still hate it. Ugh.

On the other hand, keeping my kids entertained is tough. The teenager doesn’t like spending time at our house because, well, we live in the middle of nowhere and he wants to hang out with his friends and stuff. So he spends more time at his dad’s. Can’t blame the kid. It doesn’t feel like that long ago when I was a teen and would rather be anywhere than at home.

The younger two, thank goodness they have each other. And that we have the pool. But a lot of the time they get bored and so…they destroy the house. Like today when my daughter took a bunch of paper bags and filled them with various stuffed animals. Weird, man.

I honestly don’t know where this post is going. I’m rambling (yet again). If it wasn’t so damn hot in my neck of the woods I think I would have better summers. But when it’s 100+ for two weeks straight and so hot even the pool sucks, I start wishing for fall big time.

What’s your favorite season? And do you have any big summer plans?

lame-summer-related-post

So here we are a week before school gets out and…..I have NOTHING planned for my children to do!

The local college does a summer half-day camp but it’s very expensive and it’s half day.  #1 has friends he can (and probably will) hang with all summer. I’d much rather he get a job but at 15 his only option is Six Flags and he keeps saying NO.

The city STILL doesn’t have their classes up. And the local Jr College doesn’t post the kid’s classes online — i know, wtf?!

Oh and did I mention, I have a full time dayjob? AND this is our busiest time of the year?

So, what have you got planned for your kids this summer? Someone throw me a bone?!

Well, it’s Memorial Day! And it’s also the two year anniversary of Naughty and Spice. No big celebration this year, but we do want you all to know how much we love you! We love that you come out and say hi. That you have fun being just as naughty and spicy sometimes as we are when you comment!

So to show our love…we’re giving away a $10 gift certificate to LUSH to one commenter (to be drawn randomly). Say something. Anything. Tell us what you like about our blog. :P Or just say hi!

We hope you all have a great Memorial Day! Remember why you’re celebrating…and get your BBQ on!
