Reading Romance Makes You Crazy

Yeah really! So I was watching a for crap movie on Lifetime last weekend (I used to be addicted to that stuff - then I got burnt out. Now it’s only an occasional weakness) and it was about this crazy woman who pretended to be a nanny for this widowed man and his children. It was called The Perfect Nanny and it starred Tracy Nelson (Square Pegs anyone? Am I showing my age?).
So yes, she’s a nut job and her favorite thing to do? Read romance novels and dream she’s actually living them. Particularly her favorite novel which I assumed was a historical because every time she thought about it and imagined her and her dream man together, they were in some sort of period clothing. And the dialogue was ridiculous, which was supposed to be the dialogue written in the crazy-making romance novel.
As she spiraled deeper into her craziness, she kept on reading that same romance novel and losing her mind even more. Me? I kept getting angrier because it dawned on me - reading romances and getting lost in them meant you were a crazy person who killed people. At least, that was the message the movie sent me.
It takes a lot to offend me and I was offended. By a Lifetime movie no less! Unbelievable. And directed by a man I might add. Figures (sorry to Rob and Will who frequently stop by here - you guys are stellar).

[…] finally I’m over at Naughty & Spice today talking about how reading romance books makes you insane. No really! You must go read […]

That’s screwy. I’m sorry but most Lifetime movies are the equivalent of an Oprah book club book to me. Way too dramatic and depressing.
That being said, I DO plan to watch Flirty with Forty on Saturday. Only because I know that a very talented pro-romance author wrote it! And it rocks! Woo whoo!

I’m planning on watching “Flirting With Fourty” too!
And I rarely watch Lifetime movies anyway… this movie will be the first in along time…

Me three on Flirting With Forty!
And I think it’s actually watching Lifetime movies that makes you descend into madness.

Well then hell I guess I should stop. Maybe the movie wasn’t crazy - I was crazy for watching the movie? LMAO
And another vote for Flirting with Forty! Can’t WAIT to watch it!

I can’t wait, either– I haven’t read the book but I loved Odd Mom Out and Mrs. Perfect (I think that’s the title to the sequel???)
Lifetime movies– yuck! But I’m pretty damned offended too, Karen, just by what you said. I hate that all romances are considered stupid. I work hard at what I do and know that all of you do the same. Grrrrrrrrrr . . .

My husband can’t get enough of those Lifetime movies. Silly plots and crazy women running around in their underwear. He loves it.

Yeah Tracy you said it. We work hard so I hate to see romance books made fun of…
And Jill that cracks me up! But your husband is right - there are always crazy women running around in their underwear. LOL

We don’t get Lifetime up here, or at least I don’t with my minimalistic cable. LOL.
Those movies are … I’ve never been a big fan of those made for TV movies.
Except a couple of Danielle Steele ones, Jewels and The Ring. I like those.

Actually, that explains a lot.
