Bitchen….With Permission**

F*CK ME SIDEWAYS I think my head just might explode. :diebastard:
(apologies for all the swear words)

I don’t even know where to start and I’m probably the last person in the world who needs to be blogging about marriage…seeing as how I’ve been divorced a nice, solid 12 years.
Yes 12. And I haven’t been on a date in like seven. Sometimes I think I’m too selfish to let another person in my life. Sometimes I think I should try…and lately I have been (what is WRONG with MEN that they can’t even write a fracking email?). Then I talked to a good friend this weekend, an up and coming writer with oodles and oodles of talent who I see being around publishing for a long time–please note, she has a day job and three kids.

She just came off her first deadline, turned in her book and was chatting with her husband about her option book. You know what he said?

Please check the hinges on your head before you click More.

(I”m paraphrasing here) Writing took too much time from him and the kids and he didn’t want her to write anymore. (or until she scored a big deal–which can’t happen if you don’t write).

Now she’s telling me this and I’m thinking, “Iron skillet….baseball bat….Iron skillet…baseball bat,” and a whole LOAD Of cursewords. I mean, Holy Sweet Jesus with Syrup!!!!!!!!!
Please correct the single girl if she’s wrong, but marriage isn’t a fucking dictatorship. It’s a partnership!!!! And your partner should feel secure enough in your love to let you chase a dream, just as YOU would do for THEM!

You know, sometimes, I miss having a man around but I also know, in all honest (and I’m NOT being mean) my ex would never have let me be writer. My last boyfriend wouldn’t have let me be a writer either. I have a hard enough time getting my writing time in with two kids, I can’t imagine navigating around a man, too. That said, my friend Denise’s husband is very supportive and encouraging of her writing, so I know not all men are this way, but damnit all to hell, right now I’m glad I’m single.

So, what would you do in her shoes? What would you do if your partner said, “I don’t want you to write anymore,” ? Would you keep doing it behind their back or just say, “Fuck you and get over yourself TYVM you asshat piece of shit.”
