Where Do You Work?

*Sob* I’m sad - half of the NAS girls have ditched us. No Amie…No Shelli…Only me and Feist! We’re lonely!
Sorry I just had to have a little fit. *Deep breath* I’m better now. Really.
Since I’m in such a sorry state I thought I would share an interesting article (source: Wall Street Journal) I found recently. A stay at home mom who was running her kids around all over the place started writing a novel in the back seat of her mini van. She wrote pretty much the entire thing in her mini van.
Now she’s published by St Martin’s Press (Four Wives by Wendy Walker)!
She said at home there were too many distractions. I can relate to that. I have a laptop but most of the time I stay at my little desk and write. Sometimes I move around but for the most part I’m right here, writing my life away.
How about you? Where do you write? And if you’re not a writer, where do you get your best work in?

I’ve been a lurker for a long time and love your blog, girls! You crack me up. I write on a laptop too, but usually on my sofa with my feet up and the laptop on, well, my lap! I’ve worked at home since my kids were babies and I’ve gotten really good at ignoring the chaos and soldiering through.

Strapped to a desk in my living room. If I had a laptop I could write in my minivan *sigh*
Then of course I’d also need a minivan
:)

Ah Marie I’m glad you finally made the leap and commented!
I’m so glad you enjoy our blog.
And yes I’ve learned to tune out the kiddos and chaos myself. I nearly finished my current book yesterday amongst the munchkins running around. Only about one more chapter to go…
RG you crack me up.

I have a laptop, I write in the corner seat of my ell shaped couch. I conduct all my business there. Of course that’s when I’m at home.
When I’m at the EDJ I try to ignore the voices in my head
, but it doesn’t always work. So I write on my lunch hour. I’m totally anti social now at the day job.
LOL! But that don’t matter no more, I’m leaving July 25th. Woot.
I agree with R.G., if I had a minivan I’d be writing in there too.
I’ll write anywhere. I can’t write in silence. Drives me nuts. Need background noise.
I know, I’m weird.

Wherever I can find quiet and coolness. It’s so freakin’ hot in the office this time of year, I usually move the laptop to the dining room table. Yay, it’s cool. Boo, it’s in the center of the house with multiple doors, so everyone wants to come see what Mom is doing

You know I actually do some of my best writing waiting for the boys to get out of basketball! And I love taking my alphie to the coffee shop!
*waves* I’m still around…just not

And doesn’t that just make you want to go buy her book!!!!
June 18th, 2008 at 6:17 pm
Yeah it does make me wanna buy her book Amie! Glad you stopped by…
And I gotta admit I prefer noise when I’m writing too. I can write in silence but it’s a rare moment when there actually IS silence in this house so there ya go.

I tend to write whole scenes at work during my lunch breaks and my 15 minute breaks. It’s easier to focus because 1- no internet (which is a MAJOR distraction), and 2- fresh ideas on blank paper, no fiddling with things already written trying to force something out. I do really well that way. It’s a pain to have to transfer the scenes from paper to the computer, but in the process, I get to edit them and reword things that sound funky. So it’s a good way to clean up the MS as well.

Before my laptop died I found writing came much easier or was easier. For some reason i work great anywhere but at a desk starbucks was a haven for me could get loads done. At the old desktop I find when I get stuck or just not in the mood the games and net are so hard to ignore. I find laptops even with the temptation of the net just kept me more focus.

I can’t write from paper to computer anymore Isabelle. Now sometimes when I’m stuck I’ll grab a pen and paper and just write out problems or whatever but it never ends up being part of the book.
Back in the day I couldn’t write unless it was with paper and pen. I have stacks of old notebooks with some really crappy writing. LOL
I write better with my laptop too Contessica. When my first (refurbished) laptop died and I had to go back to the desktop, I suffered.

My work is all done at the desk in the room I live in.
Pretty much has to be that way as I can’t afford a laptop.

I write in my bed when the kid is asleep. That’s how it’s gotta be.
