My current obsessions

I’m an obsessive kind of person. I focus on one project, and while I’m focused on that project it’s hard for me to even think about anything else. It’s very annoying to those around me, but it’s the only way I get things done. So, for the past six months I’ve been immersed in my book for Grand Central Publishing. But I turned that book in on the first, so now I’ve moved on to other things. What you ask? Well, my house.
You see, I like a nice house. And I like to do projects. I’ve been known to spend a month totally repainting every room in my house–sometimes several times–without stopping until every inch is covered. Don’t even try and talk to me while I’m in one of these moods. It’s totally useless, and I might bite your head off.
I’m currently obsessed on redoing my kitchen. I inherited a lovely kitchen full of purple Corian, purple tile and purplish cabinetry. Now, I love purple, not not this much. In fact, right now I never want to see the color ever again, which kind of sucks because it’s the color of my office. (But not for long. I see another painting frenzy on the horizon.)
So now you know what I’m obsessing on right now. Tiles and slate and countertop choices. I’m excited about it, and I just hope I get it all sorted out soon because I have another book to write.
What are your obsessions?

Well I’m rather obsessive myself. Right now I’m all wrapped up in this book I’m writing. Typical right?
But I understand the paint thing. And the change up the house thing. My other obsession is our backyard. In fact this afternoon I’m weeding. AGAIN. What a pain in the ass…but I must get rid of ALL of them.
I love the color of your office. I painted my bathroom purple because of you. So don’t go a changin’ too much! LOL

I don’t seem to have any obsessions anymore.
I’m still not sure if I miss them or not.

Skin care. I could stock a couple stores.

Hmmmm. I’m not sure I obsess that much. It takes too much energy. LOL.

Oh, sister of the DIY soul… ;)
I did the kitchen last year — I retiled the downstairs bathroom and a very large kitchen backsplash myself, as well as doing drywall mudding and texturizing walls and painting. I helped with the start of putting in new cabinets until dh had a pal come help him finish. I love my new kitchen, but I will never do it again. And the bathroom looks amazing, too.
I also obsess, and the other side is that it burns itself out, sometimes inconveniently — like with quilting. I must have made over 30 quilted projects in 2 years, and then, mid-project on about 4 things, the urge just died. Now I have to finish them, but it’s tough…
Unfortunately, due to the lack of TV shows right now, I have been watching DIY network, and feel the urge to put in a patio space out back — I could have someone do the digging, and put in the stone myself. But, as money and time are an issue at the moment, I am simply not letting myself look outside too often, and staying away from the Home Depot… ;>

I love Home Depot like a fat kid loves cake! Unfortunately due to book deadline there’s no gardening this year–at least not yet. I want to go to HD and take some classes on tiling and stuff so I can redo my backsplash in the kitchen. then I think, I’ll just save my money and pay someone to do it.

Amie, tiling is easy — seriously. I had never tiled a thing before and I did our backsplash and the bathroom by reading a few tiling books and buying the supplies. I don’t think you even need to worry about a class. And you’ll save a ton of money — we had our kitchen floor tile done by a contractor, and we could have saved a lot doing it ourselves after I realized how easy it was… it’s hard work in the labor sense, but it’s not complicated, if you are just doing simple designs. Better spend your money on good materials.
If you want to see what I did, just email me, and I’m happy to share what I learned doing it, because I’ll never do it again, probably, LOL.
