My Girls’ Night out!

On Saturday I was guest blogging over at The Bradford Bunch about a Girls Night out that I’d be going to. Well, now that it’s Monday (or will be when this post goes up!) I can share all about it!
Well after a great chapter meeting, followed by a fun board meeting, some of the board and a few extras went and had a girls’ night out! We got a hotel room (at the conference hotel since we adore them) and stayed in. We didn’t go clubbing or do anything too crazy. Actually, it probably would seem boring to some. But it wasn’t! We played bartender (blenders and alcohol of every variety) and just gabbed. And gabbed. And gabbed. And drank. And ate.
At one point the talk came of who could they set ‘Shelli up with’ and I listened with half interest. I’m beginning it’s not the guys that are the problem, it’s me. I’m afraid to date. Afraid of rejection and I imagine them shooting me down right away. Because I’m not perfect, and the more they know about me I’m afraid they’ll run and say ’screw this’. I think I’m afraid to even take that chance. And, yes, there is my deep thought of this post.
Onto the not so deep.
I watch my sugars and diet, so spent the night sipping on vanilla vodka/diet cokes. Yummy. Yum. But the more I drank, the more I started to fret on the pounds I might be gaining (no really, lol, I did) so I suggested we all get up and belly dance. Our Federal Agent/Romance Writer who also happens to know how to belly dance, began to teach us! I think the drinks made me more loose and, oddly, focused. I was determined to get it down.
It was a blast. When I woke up this morning was it my head that hurt? No, it was thighs and abs. Wow did we get a workout! I wanted to put up a pic of us belly dancing, but sadly I looked über intense and like I was about to do a jumping front kick. Don’t even ask how that works.

I believe you’re wearing slippers. And I think that’s super duper hawt.
Listen, you’re scared? Well guess what, they’re scared too. Don’t be afraid, find your inner tiger and go rawr on some dude. Seriously you’ll be surprised, especially if you stick around.
Fight or flight baby and don’t go flying!
Okay I sound drunk but I’m not. Too much diet Coke today perhaps?

LOL! I AM wearing slippers, my UGG slippers that are really warm (but overrated, you can get non name brand that that are just as fabulous for cheaper! I realized this too late!)
Yes, flight or fight. Okay. I promise…I think…I shall make an effort. Or if I find myself in a situation where I’m possibly maybe meeting a new guy I’ll try and be brave and bold and open minded. Possibly.

Ok and Karen, that vanilla vodka? I barely touched any of it (I was the only one drinking it!) So I’m bringing it to San Fran next month. NEXT MONTH!!!!!

So the text message you sent me, was that before or after the v.v.d.c?
Glad you had a good time.
No more diet coke for you Diddy. You too Shell. You two on diet coke are scary.

I know the feeling well, Shelli. I’ve had several women run from me over the past few months.
You know what gets them every time? My writing. Soon as they find I write erotic romance, erotica or things with erotic elements, they’re gone.
It hurts but then I tell myself, ‘It’s their loss.’ If they want a guy want a guy who’ll park himself in front of The Tube on weekends they’re welcome to him.

Emma that message was sent before I passed out. Er, went to bed.
Rob, that’s just sucky. I know it can interest some guys when a woman rights it. But then they also expect a porn star in bed and keep verifying that they’re your inspiration. Actually, I think that’s with writing any romance.
Scarlet, I used to love beer. I was the beer wench. Sadly, the carbs made me have to cut it.

Looks like you had a blast, Shel! And you look damn cute, too! Bring that vodka to SF and we’ll put it to good use!

Vodka in S.F? Like there was any doubt!

Shelli, we had so much fun, didn’t we?
About the guys: They’d be lucky to meet YOU. Truly. You deserve someone who sees all the wonderful things we all do, and hopefully, we’ll locate that guy sooner than later!
I can’t wait to do it again!

Julie, we had a blast! Thanks for heading that up!

Saturday night was a total blast! I’m sorry we left before the belly dancing lesson and missed out on that.

The Raspy Rum was tasty too.
I’ll have to look at my pix, later, to see if I have a good one of ya from behind (not looking intense). Nice report, without too much detail. Mmm Vodka in SF… Weee!

Samantha, I was sad you guys left too. I understand though! LOL! You guys weren’t crashing and it was getting late. The Belly Dancing was fab. And Christine taught us some hula
But you know, can’t say I remember much…

Lesa, I have some pics too!! I’ll forward them on :)

I’m thinking I need to bring you to a sex toys party that we will be having for a girl at work’s bachorlette party. We were thinking of paying some Seattle based company to come teach us pole dancing. I think you just might be good at it

and…well, at least you could buy a new vibrator for yourself since you are AFRAID of men
So….I’m outta here. Off to Seattle to find the cute parking lot attendant dude so you can do him!

OMG, Jammie!
I actually took strippercize, but it didn’t involve a pole. A pole could be lots of fun.
Yes, I’m afraid of men! LOL. But look at where we came from and who caused it!
June 9th, 2008 at 8:14 pm
Wow! Sounds like fun. I’m imagining everyone from the chapter in coin belts right now.
Ditto what Julie said. When you decide you’re ready, II bet you’ll have your pick of gentlemen callers waiting for a sassy, verbal vixen such as yourself.
June 9th, 2008 at 8:18 pm
Kate, coin belts! Oh that would be fun!!! You’re too sweet about the guy thing, you all are! And I loooved the excerpt you read on Saturday!

Shelli we all have flaws, they’re what make us human. They’re also what makes us us. (Jeez, that was a bit confusing. LOL)
Anyway, you are who you are and if someone doesn’t like you too bad. Plenty more people out there.
Don’t be scared, just get out there and have a good time. If by chance you meet a guy while you’re having a good time, great. If not, well you still had a good time.

Rhian, I know I need to remember that. Very few people are perfect…it’s just hard. We’re are own worse critic–in more than just writing! And I like your last bit of advice. I really need to think that way!
