Did you know Prozac kills the creative process?

Yeah and so does depression...but you gotta do what you gotta do to survive. I didn't write for three years after my mom died. And only wrote short stories before she died.

No wonder you burned out.

I dont think it was the writing that burnt me out but the query/submission process. I got almost 100 rejections before I landed my first agent and firing her was TOUGH.

Oooh, I'll play.

1996-2003 -- played at being a writer. Wrote a huge-ass book called Home Again, which was soooo bad it shall never see the light of day. A 43-page prologue. 43 pages. Three heroes, three heroines, more drama than Passions on steroids. Began laying down much of what would later become HOLD ON TO ME. Took a sabbatical from 02-03, didn't write much of anything.

2003 -- Wrote the first of many versions of HOLD ON TO ME. Started WHAT MATTERED MOST.

2004 -- Wrote TRUTH AND CONSEQUENCES and HIS ORDINARY LIFE. Was querying Silhouette Intimate Moments and learning my way around the query process, figuring out as well who I was as a writer. SIM requested (and rejected) the full of WMM.

2005 -- The agent search with HOLD ON TO ME. Wrote A FORMAL FEELING. I was sure, sure, sure this book was IT. Landed an agent in August 2005, about the same time SIM requested the full of TAC. HOLD made the rounds in NY. Wrote ANYTHING BUT MINE, started MEMORIES OF US.

2006 -- Clinical depression. Did you know Prozac kills the creative process? It took me all of 2006 to finish MOU. Lost my agent. Sold WMM to Samhain, quickly followed with sales of HOLD, TAC, and HIS ORDINARY LIFE.

2007: I started writing again, slowly. Gutted HOLD and rewrote at my editor's suggestion. The new version ROCKS. Sold AFF, ABM and MOU to Samhain. Wrote FACING IT and most of A LIFE UNLIVED from July to December.

2008: Yes, I'm crazy. I'm doing the agent rounds again with A LIFE UNLIVED, although I'm pretty sure it's not going to go anywhere. I'm about to begin writing AFTERBURN. And after that . . .? We'll see.

Lynn, I know how you feel. No wonder you burned out. So here's my short list.

September 2004- December 2005:
Love Unexpected my very first novel. Never, never, never spend a year + straight revising an ms. You will never stop writing on it.

2005: Wrote the first chapter of How Much You Want to Bet? Then went back to Love Unexpected.

2006: Finished How Much You Want to Bet? This book sold to The Wild Rose Press in 2007.

2006: Started Protecting Della. Still sitting on computer riddled with grammar and punctuation.

2007: Completed Protecting Della. Started I Said Never. Actively looking for agents.

2007: Completed Book from Hell aka See Megan Run.

2007: Started: Once a Thief

2007: Started: In Time.

2007: Started: Mora the Witch.

2008: Started: Getting Over Mr. Wrong

2008: Do you see a pattern?
