Read An E-Book Week!

read-an-e-book-week

This week has been declared Read an E-Book Week. Now I’m assuming if you hang out at this site with any regularity, then you’ve read an e-book. And many of you have been published via e-book. So y’all know what I’m talking about, right?

Well many people have NO CLUE what they are. At least people I know. And I know I’m not the first e-published author to say this. Heck a few years ago, I didn’t know they existed!

Let’s just say I certainly know what they are now! E-books are fabulous. They’re on the cutting edge of trends - they’ve gone green baby! No trees died for those books. Also, I’ve discovered a lot of great authors who write for e-publishers. Sometimes I feel like it’s unchartered territory and the general public is missing out.

But here’s my favorite thing about e-books - the instant gratification factor. You want to read that book now right? No waiting to order from Amazon, B&N or where ever, you get to read it the minute you download it onto your computer, reader, PDA, whatever you use.

Personally I don’t have an e-book reader but I want one. BAD. So I’m going to end this post and ask if any of you have one? What would you recommend? What brand would you not recommend?

Let’s hear it for e-books!

I’m actually starting to think of myself as becoming more green and getting an ebook reader. How that would be a big step for me–and how many paper books I’d not buy and donate.

I really really want the Kindle. But it’s $400. Excuse me while I bend over and grab ankles. Some day. Some day, my friend.

    I want one!
Then I can read Karen’s book I just won on her blog!
I’ve never seen an ebook reader before. I had to look them up. That sony one is $300, but if you get it from the Sony site you can get it ingraved. I need to save some more money. I’m up to about $500 but that’s supposed to be so I can fly to the US and go to a conference at some point in the future. But now I want an ebook reader. Maybe Mother’s Day…..

    Although I’ve read a fair number of e-books I don’t have an e-book reader. I think I’ll wait a while before I get one.

If I do get a portable electronic device it will probably be something like the iPod Touch, a multi-purpose device where reading e-books is just one of the functions I’ll use it for.

It will not have a cell phone capability. Or if it does I’ll turn it off and leave it off. I prefer to have control over who contacts me and when. ;)

I love ebooks. Love, love, LOVE them. Mostly because of the instant gratification factor. I’ve been lucky in that most of the ebooks I’ve read have been top-quality.

RAchel….watch Sony. I THINK their reader is proprietary. I have a sony MP3 player and I can’t put some music on it. MADE ME SO FREAKING MAD!!!!!!

I’d totally have an ebook reader but it’s not high on my list.

I DO agree w/those who said the Kindle should have been a bit more high techy too.

I have an ebookwise (ebookwise.com and about $160) reader and I love it. Right size, lights up, holds charge. The thing I don’t love about it is that too many of the NY bestsellers and new books don’t offer the secure format that works on mine (secure .imp). I can get all my small publishing house books on it (but not adobe format), and a large number of NY titles…but not all.

However, they are working on a standard format for ebooks so all ereaders can access them. That will make me happy.

The reason I didn’t get a kindle, aside from price, was beacause it doesn’t have a backlight and I specifically wanted to read in bed. I have occasional insomnia and my husband does not.

I want an e book reader to. BIG time!! And read an e book yes you should!! LOL!! :nener:

Actually I enjoy being in the e-book industry.:D

And the talent out there is phenomenal.

  9. Feisty Says:

And don’t forget you can get pretty much ANY book in e-format. My husband reads all the classic on his. He even downloaded Alice in Wonderland to read to the kid.

  10. Karen Says:

    Shell you big joker. :badgirl:

So the Kindle doesn’t have a backlight? Eeek. That throws it for me. I’d really like to have that backlight. Of course I don’t even have the money right now to even consider an ebook reader but we can dream right? We can dream…
