Haters

Though recent letters in the RWR would make you think it is. That erotica writers are just as slutty as our characters, selling our souls to make a buck.
Just as they once maligned chick lit for it’s flighty, shoe-obsessed heroines, they now call our erotica heroines sluts (and us panderers). My good friend Mary J Blige had this to say about THEM:
Let em get mad
They gonna hate anyway
Don’t you get that?
Doesn’t matter if you’re going on with their plan
They’ll never be happy
Cause they’re not happy with themselves
Okay so she’s not REALLY my friend…but it’s the lyrics that are important. Some folks are just gonna be haters no matter what anyone does or says. You can’t change folks’ minds and I’m not here to try…honest. But I have something to say (And I can only speak for myself).
It’s not about the sex.
Really, it’s not. Granted I write about sex because I LIKE writing about sex…And even though maybe I don’t always succeed, I do my damnedest to write about strong heroines who are comfortable with their sexuality no matter where it takes them. If you can’t see past the racy covers, if you can’t see past words like cum, pussy, cock and…cunt to the heart of the matter, to the fact that it’s okay for a woman to explore and YES Celebrate her Sexuality, then you’re not my target audience anyway.
To those of you who can see past what’s on the surface, or to those of you who enjoy reading erotica for whatever pleasure it brings you, I salute you. :hump:

I wish I could be less intimated about writing love scenes. But I wouldn’t love erotica if it didn’t have a plot and character development. Don’t let the haters get you down.

What was it that Jerry Pournelle said? Oh yes.
“There is a word for someone who mistakes a character’s actions and personality for the author’s. That word is ‘idiot’.”
One thing to remember. That family group of emotions; anger, hatred and fear; are all addicting. They cause an enormous rush of chemicals making the person very high. And like all addictions, the addict has to get frequent and stronger hits to maintain the same level of intoxication.
It makes their behaviour rather strange and they deliberately seek out situations that will feed their addiction. I know. I used to be an anger addict.
That said, I would be as big a slut as the characters I write. If I met more single women near my age who were comfortable with their sexuality. They seem to be kind of rare, but I don’t get out much. ;)

You know your strengths

Yeah I get so sick of this “erotic writers are sluts” stuff. What it really is is a bunch of people who are uncomfortable with what we’re writing so to make themselves feel better, they feel the need to trash it. I don’t understand.
If I have no interest in reading something or writing something, I don’t trash it! I’m not going to rush out and buy an Inspy novel. It’s not my thing. But I’m not going to gripe about the God-lovin’ freaks either. Cos I have no idea if they’re God-lovin’ freaks. That’s mean of me to assume.
Ooooh I could go on and on so I’d better shut up.

They are just jealous because they know they can’t do it!!!

Why is the world has suddenly gone back to the dark ages?
“I’m happy, how ’bout you?”
Why is it necessary for everyone to push their beliefs and ideals onto others?
I don’t care that you eat things that I wouldn’t, and I certainly don’t care that your skin is a different color than mine, and I definitely don’t care if you choose to go to church and believe in god. These all things that you have a right to choose for yourself. I love the diversity that those choices gives me in my friends.
I think we need to remember it takes all kinds to make the world go round and I applaud those that stand up and go after what they choose for themselves, especially when there are people with such narrow minds they resort to name calling to bash you down.
I’m not being flippant when I say, “build a bridge and get over it.” It’s sad to think these people distroy their lives by behaving in such negative ways but the best way to deal with them is this
Jumping down from soapbox now.

So here’s to you Mr. Boneless chicken wings man…
Sorry, I had a flashback to that beer commercial.
Haters are always going to look for something new to hate on. And you know the people hating on these books are the same people who get off to it in the bathroom so their spouses don’t know.

LMAO I might too…for the right man

Lynn you nailed it in a nutshell. They’re scared. They can’t keep up with an ever evolving/quickly changing market (First chick lit then erotica). The problem is, they never could and they didn’t see it until it was too late. Not sure if that makes sense but you get my brain so it probably does

I’ve never read an inspy book but i actually have one on my wish list at amazon. I’m going to read it and then blog about it here one day soon. Because folks, as I’m sure we will all agree, good writing transcends genres.
