Dayumn, that’s one ugly actress. Really?

So the other day I was writing and had the news on in the background (of course) and I heard something that made my jaw drop. No it wasn’t particularly newsworthy or crazy or sad (normal news stuff) it was…well, kind of just crap. I heard them start talking about the list of ‘ugliest actresses in Hollywood’ or something. Basically the ugly list.
I guess I’m not surprised there was a list, but more so who they put on it. It made my innards shrivel and twist. I mean, these women aren’t ugly. I think they’re pretty hot. I think they were labeled ugly because they don’t look like the cookie cutter Hollywood actress–and seriously, there’s a formula for looks there. And sadly it tries to get passed on to the rest of the world.
Anyway, tangent. Here’s just a few women that made the list…
The Lovely Sarah Jessica Parker

The stitch up a broken heart Sandra Oh

And the not so Desperate Terri Hatcher

Now personally, I’ve always looked at these women and thought they stood out. That they’re more beautiful because they haven’t hacked their face and body to meet Hollywood standards. They look different, they’re individuals. But maybe that’s just me. Maybe people want the cookie cutter actress.
So what do you think? Are they ugly?

Yeah this list is ridiculous. Not everyone can be supermodel thin (well the 3 above are pretty damn thin but you know what I mean), with perfect features, blue eyes, blonde hair, etc. It’s b.s.
These women are beautiful because of their diverse look! Though if you’re gonna vote Terri on the ugly list it’s only cos she screwed with herself a bit with the excessive cosmetic surgery. She used to be gorgeous - now she’s a little odd looking.
Ugly list. What a joke.

I actually do agree with that about Terri. Her face looks a little bit like it was sliced and the safety pinned up higher on her scalp. I love SJP, though. I want to be her. Sort of. Maybe it’s cause we have similar hair.

Tell them to go

Ugh.
I repeat ugh.
Have they looked in the mirror is what I ask. I bet those calling them ugly and putting them, (the very lovely women) on this snobby list are homely. At least we know they are on the inside. Do you have any more swear icons? IWhat the hell, I’ll use this one,

You know the sad thing is, I think it’s men. So that just makes me shake my head and sigh even more. Of course, these men are probably the epitome of fugly and the same guys that don’t wash their hands after using the toilet.
October 15th, 2007 at 1:27 am
I LOVE Sandra Oh and SJP! And they are so not ugly. I hate Hollywood and their stupid lists. They have no idea what’s real, and come on, very little in Hollywood is actually real. It’s too bad their ideals have become the ’standard’ for what we should look like. No wonder 9 year olds are on diets and 13 year olds are getting lipo! I hate to say that I think Teri has fallen victim to too much surgery, she was fine to begin with.

Are we jealous because these woman are famous and have money? Was it really men who thought up the list? Cause I gotta say if any of these ladies came knocking on the door and said to them lets go to bed, they wouldn’t be telling them they called ‘em ugly.
Who says what’s ugly anyway? Isn’t beauty in the eye of the beholder?????
Like every ‘normal’ woman I bet these ladies have their bad days and their good days.
Mind you, after seeing what the makeup girl and the hair dresser and the photographer did to me for my sister-in-laws wedding, anyone can ‘look’ drop dead gorgeous. Even my cousin kindly mentioned (at the top of her voice) as I walked down the isle, ‘my god! she’s gorgeous!’. And they hadn’t even been serving the drinks yet!!!!
So really, who cares what these stupid people say? Surely these smart, sexy, successful woman aren’t going to listen. Their laughing all the way to the bank. Bet the list makers aren’t.

Rachel, that’s such a good point. It’s interesting they target some of the most successful women in the biz. And yes, anyone can be made gorgeous! I wish I had a makeup artist following me around
Libby, the influence on young women terrify me. It freaks me out on how I’ll raise my own daughter to ignore that crap.
October 15th, 2007 at 5:59 am
Well, they made sure to put some very popular actresses in there so that guaranteed that people would talk about the article. Heck, we are talking about it now so the list writer did what he was hoping for.

I think it’s a function of our looks obsessed society - it sucks to call these women ugly just because they’re not stereotypical. I will admit I’m not particularly a fan of any of them - looks or acting or the shows they star in, but I think whoever had the idea to make up an actual ‘ugly’ list should take good long look at themselves in the mirror.
October 15th, 2007 at 7:17 am
Who does anyone think they are to make a list like that? Geez!! I’ll bet none of the people who put that list out could stop traffic.
Crap like this is why teenage girls are getting cosmetic surgery and suffering from eating disorders.
October 15th, 2007 at 7:21 am
I must be considered ugly to my hubby then…because these women all hit his hot list. And frankly, I’d think about switch-hitting for Sandra Oh!
October 15th, 2007 at 8:26 am
that is terrible - people are so obsessed with a stereotypical beauty and think it’s thier right to tear someone successful down. Shameful
October 15th, 2007 at 8:47 am
None of those women are ugly. Sarah is lovely, if not the type to really turn my crank. Ms. Oh is definite Sproing! material. Can’t say I’m fond of Ms. Hatcher. I always thought she came off as fake. But she’s certainly not ugly.
But I’m weird. I spend most of my time hanging out with women romance and erotica authors for chrissake!
October 15th, 2007 at 10:08 am
And saying Sandra Oh is ugly is racist b.s. as far as I am concerned.
October 15th, 2007 at 10:33 am
These women are ugly?
SJP isn’t a classic beauty, but she’s one fine-looking woman: elegant and talented, with an amazing presence and sense of style.
And Sandra Oh…hell, I wish I could be half as ugly as Sandra Oh.
(Okay, I do think Teri Hatcher’s no beauty, but ironically, that’s because she looks like she’s trying too hard to be Hollywood-hot. In her natural state, she’s probably adorable.)

Mel i’m with you on Sandra Oh!
SJP isn’t one of my fave and I think Terri H just has too much makeup on. SHes’ got gorgeous dark eyes–and I”m a sucker for pretty eyes.
Chris is right–the writers succeeded with this article.
October 15th, 2007 at 11:55 am
It was some website (bastardly?) I’ve never heard of. I just heard them yacking about it on the news.
I think Karen just told me SJP just made 75 million on her perfume (what was it?? So yeah she’s laughing to the bank.
October 15th, 2007 at 11:56 am
So sad that ugly and beauty only apply to what’s on the outside and not the inside. I have a 14 yo daughter and am constantly on the lookout for her thinking there’s anything wrong with her body…right now, she doesn’t think her butt is big enough (!) I don’t know…I do think it’s society and the competition for “desireable men” that drive us to do crazy, unhealthy, and stupid things to our bodies…sigh…

For Christ’s sake, these women are most definitely NOT ugly. They are beautiful and unique. I think they are more attractive than the traditional beauties because they stand out. People who make up these lists should go &%%%%&O)))(*&^%%%$$$*&***!

The things I really have to say about this list is that the people making it are seriously fucked in the head and that their gender is completely irrelevant. Both men and women who buy into the bullshit of the Hollywood or New York Model perpetuate this idiocy.
None of those three women hit either extreme for me (as far as being gorgeous or unattractive.) As far as dating them or sleeping with them, I would have to meet them and see if anything clicked… just like with anybody else. There are some women I find drop dead gorgeous… there are some that make me shiver with dread. None of these three are either.
October 15th, 2007 at 7:36 pm
For the record I’d totally do SJP on account of her amazing fashion sense.
October 15th, 2007 at 10:11 pm
I think they are all gorgeous in their own way. Teri Hatcher has done something to her face attempting to stay “hollywood” and it has made a huge difference. Look at her as the stripper sister in Tango and Cash, she was HAWT and I always wanted to be like her with those wonderful dark eyes.
These people who made this list are whacked, probably the same ones who think anorexic Paris is hot!
